Patriarch Alexy II hopes for speedy settlement of problems in Orthodox-Catholic relations

Moscow, September 18, Interfax - Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia hopes for a speedy settlement of problems in Orthodox-Catholic relations in face of the challenges presented by today's world.

'It is my conviction that our Churches' common stand on many challenges of today is a solid foundation for our common witness to Christian values before the world which needs it so much today', he said in his congratulatory message to Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone on the occasion of his assumption of the office of Vatican Secretary of State.

Congratulating the new head of the Holy See government, Alexy II expressed hope 'for further development of relations between the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches and for a speedy settlement of problems dividing us'.

The primate of the Russian Church also wished Cardinal Bertone God's help in his work in his important office.
