Vatican envoy: relations with Russia’s Orthodox on the rise

St. Petersburg, January 31, Interfax - The Vatican envoy to Russia, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, has stressed "positive experience in relations between the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches and called for their further development," Catholic priest Igor Kowalewski said.

Mennini was speaking at a session of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Russia, Kowalewski, general secretary of the Conference, told Interfax.

The session discussed Catholic activities in Russia, including the functioning of the higher Mary the Queen of Apostles seminary in St. Petersburg.

Bishop Joseph Wert, chairman of the Conference, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, head of the Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow, and Bishop Clemens Pikkel of St. Clemens' diocese in Saratov were among session participants.
