Moscow, May 21, Interfax - The unrecognized Kiev Patriarchate's Metropolitan Yevsevy of Rovno and Ostrog held a memorial service for fighters of Stepan Bandera's Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).
The ceremony took place on the site of a past clash with the Soviet Army in the Gurby area of the Rovno region.
Regional administration head Viktor Matchuk, first deputy head of the regional council Valentin Korolyuk, other local officials, the public, youth organizations and Ukrainian Insurgent Army veterans took part in the service, the Kiev Patriarchate's website said.
The Ukrainian Insurgent Army and the Nazi killed hundreds of Orthodox clerics in 1941-1945. They hanged Bishop Manuil (Tarnavsky) and killed Metropolitan Alexy (Gromadsky) for their refusal to join the unrecognized Ukrainian Autocephalous Church in 1943.
