Moscow, July 4, Interfax - A prayer service was held at the Church of Christ the Savior on Tuesday for winning the Olympic vote in electing the host of the Winter Olympic Games 2014.
At the request of the Russian Olympic Committee, Bishop Alexander of Dmitrov, Patriarchal vicar, said the Prayer for Every Good Initiative. Among the congregation were representatives of the Russian Sports Committee, Olympic Committee and committee for the Winter Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi.
'Sometimes those who ask something of God and do not receive it are vexed. But we should remember that our petitions are not always beneficial for us', the bishop said addressing the congregation, the Moscow Patriarchate website reports.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that if the Winter Olympic Games are held in Sochi, 'it will be a positive event for the development of Russia's southern regions and will raise the authority our country internationally'.
'Therefore the Church as an integral part of our society wishes that all these initiatives be a success. We prayerfully wish God's help and blessing to Russian sports organizations', the bishop added.
