Russian communists oppose Lenin's reburial

St. Petersburg, June 7, Interfax - The Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF) will do everything to prevent reburial of Vladimir Lenin, First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of KPRF Ivan Melnikov said in St. Petersburg.

The issue on Lenin's reburial only diverts the people from real problems, such as price growth and corruption, he said.

"We have a law: if the relatives of the dead express such a wish [on the burial] and explain their causes, then it could be done. But in this case the relatives including the next of kin, his niece Olga Ulyanova, are categorically against it," he said.

"We have no conditions for the burial of Lenin's body at the moment," he said.

According to earlier reports, former U.S.S.R. President Mikhail Gorbachev said on Wednesday that Lenin's body should be removed from the Red Square and buried.
