Moscow, October 28, Interfax - Pope Benedict XVI has sent his greetings to Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II.
The pope's best regards were delivered to the patriarch during a meeting between the Secretary for the Holy See's Relations with States Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo and the head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Kiril of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, in Moscow on Friday.
The pope recognizes the Russian Orthodox Church's contribution to forming a united Europe, Lajolo said.
Due to the Christian moral values of Russians, reflected by the Russian Orthodox Church, it could contribute greatly to the development and reconciliation of the contemporary world, he said.
This is a joint contribution by the Russian Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church, Lajolo said.
The Russian Orthodox Church and the Holy See have already cooperated productively, he said.
Cooperation could be improved, primarily so that society understands the spirit of Christian values, Archbishop Lajolo said.
