Moscow, October 29, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox and the Roman Catholic Churches can open a new page in their relations, said Vatican Secretary for State Relations Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo.
"We can reinforce brotherly ties and open a new way, which I think will be useful not only in a social, but also in an ecumenical aspect," Lajolo told reporters after a meeting with Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad in Moscow on Friday.
The Vatican is prepared for a dialog with the Moscow Patriarchate, he said. "The Russian Orthodox Church can be sure that it can count on cooperation with the Roman Catholic Church in all areas," he said.
Lajolo said he hopes a dialog between the two churches will help in "overcoming difficulties, which often occur in life and should be settled."
