Minsk, April16, Interfax – Natural disasters result from conflict between man and nature, spokesman of the Byelorussian Orthodox Church Archimandrite Alexey (Shinkevich) believes.
"As to the church standpoint, natural calamities urge a person to act more delicately in the world of nature and in the world of people, more morally and spiritually," he told Interfax on Friday.
The priest reminded that Sodom and Gomorrah, Pompeii were destroyed in Biblical times. "It was an evident God's punishment. God sent his prophets and they warned people saying that the sin is not acceptable," Fr. Alexey said.
He urged to keep Bible lessons in mind, but to avoid panic in connection with natural disasters especially with recent volcanic eruption in Iceland and said that "a storm in human soul is more dangerous that eruption of a volcano."
