Putin speaks against Muslim public animal sacrifices

Moscow, December 16, Interfax - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during a Thursday call-in touched the topic of Muslim "sacrifice acts."

He said Eid al-Adha is a good feast, but focused on sacrifice practice on the day, especially in non-Muslim republics.

"There's no need to do it publicly, you'd better not shock other citizens who don't even understand what it is, there should be tolerance and understanding of the cultural environment you're living in, you're staying in, where you're practicing it," the Prime Minister said.

Putin stressed that traditional Islam in Russia had always developed and was one of the foundations that supported Russian state.
