Moscow, February 8, Interfax - The chairman of Russia's Council of Muftis, Ravil Gainutdin, said the Russian foreign minister and foreign intelligence service chief's visit to Damascus is a signal to the world community that Moscow will not allow the situation in Syria to develop Libya-style.
"We watched yesterday the foreign minister and foreign intelligence service head visiting Syria and informing the Syrian leadership of Russia's position. But most important, they made it understood to the world community that Russia will not allow the Libyan scenario to repeat itself," Gainutdin said during Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's meeting with representatives of religious confessions on Wednesday.
"We can see the suffering people of Libya, Tunisia, Afghanistan and Iraq, and we can see what is going on in Syria. The Muslim leaders of our country must demonstrate their spiritual unity and support for the policy, pursued by our president and prime minister," Gainutdin said.
