Moscow, April 27, Interfax - The Union of Muslim Women of Russia had a foundation congress in Moscow on Thursday.
Among the forum participants were leaders of women's organizations from Russia, the CIS countries, Turkey, and Iran, as well as scientists, authorities, and members of the public, the Russian Council of Muftis reported on its official site.
"The role of the woman - mother, wife, sister - is especially significant when she gives birth to children and raises them, makes a warm and secure home, and warms the hearts of those who came into this world according to the will of the All-Mighty One. However, modern women do more. Women's organizations in Russia and worldwide are looking to realize the initiatives of the entire society," Ravil Gainutdin, the head of the Russian Council of Muftis, said.
Gainutdin admitted that the situation of modern Muslims is difficult due to "distortions of the true image of Islam and Muslims."
"We are seeing some phobias in society as regards hijab, criticism of the position of women in the family, and discrimination by employers," Gainutdin said.
