Orthodox priest to guide Russian sportsmen at the London Olympics

Moscow, July 26, Interfax Ė Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia blessed cleric of the Yaroslavl Diocese Archimandrite Sylvester (Lukashenko) to be a spiritual guide of the Russian team at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

A prayer service will be held on Thursday. "Weíll ask for Godís help before the good undertaking. Sportsmen need to show their best results," the priest said in his interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily.

He plans to attend the competitions, pray for the Russian sportsmen and bless them.

Father Sylvester is a former sportsman, he was seriously involved in athletics. He urged participants in the Olympics to remember that "defeats are temporary" and "are given to us so that we can win in the future."

He predicts that "with Godís help" Russia has all chances to take the third place in the team event.
