Attempt made to disrupt documentary theater production of Pussy Riot trial

Moscow, August 28, Interfax - A group of people attempted to disrupt Moscow-based documentary theater Teatr.doc's production "With Your Own Eyes" which focuses on the trial against Pussy Riot, the theater's art director, Mikhail Ugarov, said on Tuesday.

"At the end of the show, 'Orthodox Christians' entered the hall with an NTV crew and started shouting: "Repent!", "Why do you hate the Russian people?" Ugarov wrote on his Facebook page.

"With your own eyes" is a one-off documentary production organized by Teatr.doc about the Pussy Riot trial.

"This is a one-off production where the events are acted out not by actors, but eyewitnesses of the event - the defense lawyers and journalists who attended the proceedings," Ugarov said on the Ekho Moskvy radio station earlier.

The incident was filmed by an NTV crew, he also said. "NTV was shooting, which means that TV people have this group of extras follow them everywhere, and then film the result of a conflict. It should be said that the audience extinguished them quickly," the Teatr.doc art director said.

NTV representatives were not immediately available to comment on this information.

On August 17, a court in Moscow sentenced Pussy Riot band members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich to two years in prison each for the February performance at the Christ the Savior Cathedral. The verdict was appealed on Monday.
