"Please accept my heartfelt greetings on the occasion of your birthday. As the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, you direct your efforts at preserving traditional spiritual and moral values in society, harmonizing inter-religious and inter-ethnic relations, and enhancing cooperation between the church and the state," Putin said in his message published on the Kremlin's website.
The patriarch's wise pastoral word helps consolidate the nation and support the people amid challenging and trying times, he said.
Putin wished Patriarch Kirill good health, vigor, and a long life.
