When I found myself in a small crystal shop in Minneapolis one April afternoon, soft ambient sounds and shelves full of stones and incense greeted me — a scene far removed from anything I once associated with religion or traditional faith. I was flipping through a book on crystals, intrigued by the idea that physical objects might hold spirituality or subtle energy.
